When I was packing for South by Southwest I pulled out all the clothes I wanted to wear and paired them into outfits. Then I added the jewelry and shoes, and then I wrote down what went in each outfit as a sort of wardrobe cheat sheet. You are thinking I am a nerd, right? I know. Me too, actually. But it's part of the master plan.
At a convention affectionately referred to as "nerd spring break", you would think that jeans and free tee shirts from tech companies would be adequate attire. That's my typical garb, and what most folks here are rocking. If you knew me, you would also think that my usual go-with-the-flow attitude would prevent me from planning what necklace to wear days in advance. But I wanted, and needed, to feel pretty this week.
It is my birthday today. I am 28 (woah!) This, I have decided, is the year for dressing nice and for being Really Grown Up. No more just throwing things on and going. I want to start networking on a professional level and making money with my podcast (which turns one today!) and I want to make grown up friends and do grown up things and entertain grown up, life-changing ideas. It is also the year, I've decided, to begin earnestly checking things off of my Life List and rocking it out. Being well dressed makes everything else seem so much more attainable. This is also the year (fingers crossed!) I begin working out for real. Getting that particular goal off the ground has been a long time coming and has been fraught with a lot of false starts, and crying, and feeling like a failure. But it feels do-able now. Maybe it's the South by Southwest / birthday high I have going. But I'm hopeful.
Basically, I'm hoping to make the best me ever and I've decided that, for starters, my best me wears cute clothes more often than not. I've gotten lots of compliments on my new threads, too!
I'm full of hope for an excellent year, and I'm excited to start it looking nice... even if I have to have a cheat sheet for starters.
